The president of Portugal INEM accident and emergency institute last night admitted that there is a shortage of paramedics in the Algarve.

Luís Meira made this concession following a complaint lodged by Faro Mayor Rogério Bacalhau, who said INEM workers were working overtime to compensate for a lack of resources.

 

But the INEM chief said that despite concerns, all ambulances remain operational due to the dedication of paramedics in the region and that reinforcements were readily supplied from elsewhere in the country whenever deemed necessary.
