Airbnb said that for the months of June, July and August, 657,000 of the guests were foreign and from countries such as France (164,300), Spain (70,000), the UK (52,400), Germany (46,300) and the USA (35,500).
The visitors stayed for an average of 4.6 nights in the country, which is slightly higher than the European average of 4.3".
The company said the most popular destination in Portugal was Lisbon, which had become the fourth most popular in the whole of Europe after Barcelona, Paris and London.
“Domestic tourism also doubled compared with last year”, the company added.
Furthermore, there were 50,000 Portuguese tourists who used the platform to book accommodation abroad in countries such as Spain (14,255), Italy (6,800), France (6,200), the UK (3,000) and Croatia (2,900).
