In a statement, the company said this volume of travellers made Portugal the sixth most popular destination for Airbnb Europe in the period.
Of these, more than 218,000 people travelled as a family, making Portugal the eighth most popular European country for families.
Airbnb in 2016 generated an economic impact of €1.07 billion in Portugal, almost half of which - €476 million – was in Lisbon. Outside Portugal, the fastest growing destination was Glasgow, Scotland.
