It was ranked alongside other destinations including Zagreb in Croatia, Galicia in Spain, Paphos in Cyprus and Leeds in the UK. Gotland in Sweden, northern Montenegro, Northern Germany, Moldova, and Le Havre in France round off the list. Among many other attributes the Alentejo, which takes up one third of Portugal, was complimented for its historic monuments, endless plains, its beaches and its gastronomy and wines.
