Portugal’s southernmost region accounted for 40 percent of all tourism in August. According to new figures, the number of Portuguese tourists in the Algarve was up by 9.1 percent on August 2017, though the number of foreign visitors fell by 7.2 percent.
This was revealed on Monday by fresh figures from the National Statistics Institute (INE), which tallied a total of 3,028,000 nights spent in the Algarve in August.
During the first eight months of the year, the Algarve accounted for 13.5 million nights spent by tourists, which was considerably higher than all other regions, representing 34 percent of the overall national total.
