The Portuguese Met Office issued the advisory this morning due to rising temperatures rising and strong winds being accompanied by a drop in humidity.

The Algarve is also covered by this warning, with five areas being placed on the highest level of readiness due to the threat of wildfires.

Monchique, Tavira, São Brás de Alportel, Castro Marim and Alcoutim are all coloured purple, while Loulé and Silves are on red alert, which is the second highest level on the scale.
