The Óbidos resort, just north of Lisbon, is located on the banks of a lagoon with striking inland and sea views and offers not just an 18-hole Championship golf course but 601 houses in an eye-catching array of architectural styles.
The project, recognised by the Portuguese government as a “Project of National Interest”, involved 23 Masters of Contemporary Architecture in creating an innovative and unique luxury tourist resort.
A five-star hotel is under development as part of the site, complete with an extensive range of leisure facilities and services including a luxury spa.
David MacLaren, Director of Property and Venue Development at The European Tour, said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome Bom Sucesso as the latest addition to our network.
“Not only does it boast an attractive golf course, but the ambitious and unique architectural project that surrounds it makes this one of the most striking venues in our portfolio.
“We look forward to working with Pedro Portugal and his team to help to continue raising Bom Sucesso’s standards to the highest possible level, and to also support the ambitious tournament aspirations of the Resort and the Óbidos Region.”
Pedro Portugal, CEO of Bom Sucesso, said: “We are very proud to become a member of an exclusive network like European Tour Properties and we are looking forward to working together in developing our destination over the coming years.
“We have created a contemporary destination where modern architecture merges into the natural beauty of the Óbidos lagoon. The resort masterplan was created by WATG and involved 23 architects, including two holders of the world-renowned Pritkzer architecture prize, Portuguese Álvaro Siza Vieira and Eduardo Souto de Moura.
“The potential of the project is enormous and we believe that partnering with The European Tour will reinforce our efforts to achieve the highest standards.
“Recently we have been supporting professional golf in Portugal, especially with our sponsored European Tour player Ricardo Gouveia.”
Gouveia graduated to The European Tour for the first time this season after topping the European Challenge Tour’s Road to Oman Rankings for 2015, in the process becoming the highest ranked Portuguese golfer in history when he reached 84th in the Official World Golf Ranking, following victory at the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final.
Bom Sucesso is the third new addition to the European Tour Properties network in 2016, joining Lighthouse Golf & Spa Resort, in Bulgaria, and Albatross Golf Resort, in Czech Republic, as the latest members of the exclusive group.
