Reports in the British press state Debbie Middleton and her husband, both 41, travelled to Portugal in May 2014 where they stayed at the Holiday Village Hotel in Olhos d’Água, Albufeira.
After three days at the hotel their youngest daughter Emily, at the time aged eight months, fell ill with vomiting and diarrhoea. Eventually all three plus another sibling had to be admitted to hospital with the same ailments.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Mrs. Middleton said a fellow guest who also fell ill pointed out that individual tablemats were only cleaned on their topsides and underneath were covered in mould.
The family complained to travel operator First Choice, which owns the unit, and took the matter to court. They have now been compensated for what happened on their holiday.
