In terms of mobile broadband, not only did the level of consumption ratchet up with each consumer getting through a monthly average of 1.25 Gigabytes (GB) last year against 1.07 GB in 2014 but the numbers of effective users also rose breaking 5.5 million users in Portugal’s 10 million strong population.
This was up 8.2% year-on-year with a 15% decline in the number of tablet and PC users more than offset by smartphone users.
In this sector, MEO remained the lead operator, holding a 43.9% market share against 44.6% in 2014, trailed by NOS on 28.4%, up from 23.4% in 2014 and now ahead of Vodafone that closed 2015 with a market share of 27.4% against its 31.8% share in 2014.
The mobile broadband turnover in revenues rose to 306 million last year according to the Anacom report.
The numbers of fixed line broadband consumers also continued to rise, up to 2.99 million households, with the 9.5% increase outstripping the 8.5% average notched up over the last five years with 96.2% of users subscribing via a telecommunications service package.
The fixed broadband revenues amounted to 1.511 billion, up an annualised 26.5%, with multiple service packages accounting for 88.4% of this turnover.
