Recently Viv Thomas, who is dedicated to helping the charity that was instrumental in his recovery from cancer, presented a cheque for €12,581 to Maria de Lurdes Santos Pereira of the Association following a highly successful Golf Challenge in Vilamoura.
Chilli Boy is the Algarve’s premier piri-piri gourmet producer so it was appropriate that boss Viv Thomas should team up with friends and business associates from all over the world including the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and, of course, Europe to stage a fantastic fundraising day in support of a medical cause that now screens thousands of women throughout the region with its mobile Breast Cancer Screening Unit.
Over the years Viv and his friends have raised in excess of €40,000. The Algarve Onco-lógica Association (AOA) was founded twenty-four years ago and is a private non-profit, public utility and health-care institution.
On Sunday 7 October, the Oncology Association has its annual Mamamaratona March/Race in Portimão with Mini (10 kms) and Meia (21 kms) Marathons.
Some 6000 participants are expected to help with the battle against cancer including raising awareness of a healthy lifestyle and the practice of physical exercise as ways of preventing cancer.
