Argentinean authorities prevented the stash from leaving the South American country after discovering it was infused with cocaine.
The rice had been cleverly impregnated with 30 kilos of cocaine worth over a million euros and was being shipped to Portugal and Spain via Guinea Bissau under the UN’s Zero Hunger programme.
According to reports thirteen people, Argentineans and Colombians, were detained and the drugs seized.
The method used for concealing the drug is said to be a new scheme, reportedly uncommon and apparently simple.
It is said to involve the cocaine being dissolved in water, in which the rice is then soaked and boiled to absorb the drug.
Upon reaching its final destination, in this case Portugal and Spain, another chemical process is used to separate the rice from the drug.
