The Communist Party hasannounced that it will spend the first part of the coming year campaigning for Portugal’s exit from the euro.
It has also called on thegovernment to implement measures to avoid “renewed chaos at hospital emergency units due to the flu virus.”
These positions were outlined for the ruling-Socialist Party’s alliance partners by the Communist Party leader Jerónimo de Sousa at his party’s headquarters in Lisbon.
The party leader said, following a central committee meeting, “it was decided to launch a campaign to liberate Portugal from its submission to the euro, between January and June 2017.”
He explained that this will be done in conjunction with demands to renegotiate Portugal’s debt while also working to regain public control of the banking system.
