The party also wants the government to invest in a medium/long-term development strategy in Alentejo of an aeronautic cluster, linking Beja airport with existing and future companies, “in an integrated view of the development of industry and services to boost public infrastructure in the region”.
The Communists said the development they knew of regarding Beja airport involved setting up an aircraft dismantling unit “but the fact is that people have been speaking about this for more than four years”.
Beja airport started operations in April 2011, with its inaugural flight, but since then, although it is open, it has been practically empty and without flights or passengers most days. It did, however, win a prize last year as one of Europe’s cleanest airports.
