Cristiano Ronaldo magic show!

by Chris Wright, in Sport · 05-04-2018 14:55:00 · 0 Comments

Those who were privileged to be in the Allianz Stadium, Turin on Tuesday evening will have witnessed possibly the best ever Champions League goal as Cristiano Ronaldo once again demonstrated why, at the age of 33, he is still the greatest footballer in the world.

Cristiano Ronaldo magic show!

Juventus went behind as early as the third minute as Real Madrid imposed their superiority. Marcelo flicked a pass down the left for Isco, who rolled a pass inside for Ronaldo, on the left-hand edge of the six-yard box.
Benzema blocked off the run of two Juventus defender as Ronaldo met the cross and fiercely flicked an unstoppable first-time shot into the right-hand corner of the net.
Another record for Ronaldo as he made it ten goals in ten consecutive Champions League games. But it was twenty minutes after the interval that a truly inspirational goal had the whole stadium rising to its feet to applaud a moment of sheer magic. The Italians were not happy to be on the receiving end of a breathtaking moment of athletic brilliance yet they were prepared to acknowledge a genius at work. Chiellini and Buffon got into a tangle, the former poking a back pass past his own keeper.
Ronaldo collected the loose ball and laid it back  to Vazquez whose goal bound shoot was brilliantly parried by Buffon.
The ball broke to the right for Carvajal to hook it back into the centre where Ronaldo, his back to goal on the penalty spot, sent an overhead scissor kick into the top right corner of the net. A bemused Buffon could only watch in admiration.
Even Ronaldo seemed to be taken aback by the adulation of the 40,849 crowd who will in years to come say, ‘I was there on that rocambolesco occasione’.
But the maestro was not yet finished as he provided an assist for Marcelo to score number three in the seventy-second minute. There is no doubt that the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium crowd will hail their hero when he leads out Real Madrid for the second-leg of the quarter-final tie next Wednesday evening.
