Hotel activity in Portugal dropped in April with the number of guests down by 5.4% to 1.8 million and over-night stays down 8.4% to 4.7 million, compared with the same month last year, the Portuguese National Statistics Institute (INE) said.
The INE noted that these results were impacted by the calendar effect of Easter, which boosted the numbers in March rather than April (+11.7% more guests and +9.9% more over-night stays), plus there was the fact that April was quite a wet month.
Over the first four months of the year as a whole, guest numbers were up 3.1% and over-night stays were up 1.6%, but this still means that there was a slowdown in tourist activity.
