“What are the budget implications, for example, it they go back to a 35-hour week? This is still a period when there are lots of questions”, Peter Praet said in a long interview with Público newspaper.
Last Friday the general secretary of the Communist-backed CGTP labour federation, Arménio Carlos, said that promises are made to be kept, recalling that 1 July is the deadline for returning to 35 hours of work in the public sector.
The same day, the Work minister, Vieira da Silva, said that the previous government’s idea to apply a 40-hour week to the state workers had not had the desired effect on most public administration services.
