An Environmental Impact Study into the large-scale dredging of Portimão cruise port’s navigation channel and manoeuvring basin is in progress and should be submitted to the Portuguese Environment Agency in September, according to reports.

This groundwork, for a project that will cost about 18 million euros, will allow larger ships to dock in the city. These reports come after Sea Minister Ana Paula Vitorino said Portimão should become the Algarve’s main port, for both commercial vessels and cruise ships.
