The ‘289 Exhibition’ project, its name a nod to Faro’s telephone area code as well as to the regional artists’ association, is spearheaded by artist Pedro Cabrita Reis.
Artists who will be exhibiting include renowned names from the national world of contemporary art, such as Julião Sarmento, Vasco Araújo, Ângela Ferreira, Fernanda Fragateiro, Pedro Calapez, Noé Sendas, Miguel Palma, Francisco Tropa, Ana Vidigal, Maria José Oliveira, Rui Chafes and Xana.
The project is being coordinated by artists Pedro Cabrita Reis, Edgar Massul and Tiago Batista, with the support of Faro Council.
When the exhibition wraps in September, a catalogue with texts by Mirian Tavares, João Pinharanda and José Miranda Justo will be launched in the auditorium of the João de Deus High School in Faro, on a date yet to be announced.
Association 289 is a non-profit organisation whose purpose is to contribute to the promotion and dissemination of visual arts and other artistic manifestations not only in the Algarve, where it is installed, but also in the rest of the country and abroad.
According to information published on its website, the association aims to organise shows and exhibitions, to promote the work of its members and other artists, and to hold workshops and debates on subjects related to the arts.
