Those services will cover recruitment, pay and benefits and talent and performance management, among others.
The launch of the new hub took place on Monday lunchtime in a ceremony presided over by the head of the British Diplomatic Service, Sir Simon Fraser, alongside Dr António Rodrigues, president of the Portugal-UK Friendship Parliamentary Group.
Also present at the ceremony was the British Ambassador to Portugal, Kirsty Hayes.
A statement from the Embassy said the setting up of the FCO’s new hub in Portugal has created 18 jobs, “a clear demonstration of the British Government’s confidence in the recovery of the Portuguese economy and the quality of its human resources.”
Spearheaded by Beatriz Perez, the Lisbon hub already has 15 members of staff who provide services to embassies in more than 30 countries.
Once fully functional, the hub will cover more than 85 different diplomatic missions in 50 countries across six different time-zones, from Ireland to China.
“The opening of the hub in Lisbon is an important step in the context of the Foreign Office’s efforts to provide a professional and consistent human resources service to all its missions around the world”, the Embassy concluded.
