This is the first occasion since the outbreak of the Monchique wildfires that no council in the region has been placed on the highest level of alert.
However, 18 areas spread across the districts of Bragança, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Santarém and Portalegre have been placed on the maximum fire alert due to prevailing weather conditions.
