A spokesperson for the Festival told The Portugal News: “Each year we choose one part of the World and this year we decided to choose Lusophone countries.”
Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) countries include Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and Guinea Bissau, in Africa, as well as Brazil, East Timor and Macau.
To celebrate the theme ‘Obrigado!’ all aspects of the festival, including music, documentaries, seminars, workshops and street parties, will have a Lusophone twist.
Among the artists participating in this year’s festival are Portuguese Fado singer Carminho, Brazilian musician Marcio Faraco, and Cape Verdean singer Carmen Souza .
The festival takes place at St. Michael’s Cave in Gibraltar, from 21 to 23 June, and this year also has the backing of Lisbon Council and the Lisbon Municipal Archive.
Last year’s event, dedicated to Morocco, was attended by more than 6,000 people.
