In a statement the police authority said that of the overall number of nationwide arrests, 107 were for driving while under the influence of alcohol, 28 related to drug trafficking, 18 for driving without a licence, three for being in possession of an illegal weapon, and one for theft.
Officers confiscated 19 doses of LSD, 10 doses of cocaine, three guns and three other weapons during their interventions.
Regarding traffic crimes, officers detected 1,953 offences, nearly half of which were for speeding. Over 200 were for drink-driving, 98 for improperly using the seatbelt, 79 for not having the necessary vehicle MOT and 58 for talking on mobile phones while driving.
In related news, GNR officers in Lisbon last weekend detained 22 people for drug trafficking at an illegal rave party in Ota, Alenquer. A statement from the police force said some 630 individual doses of cocaine, cannabis and ecstasy had been seized. One person was also arrested for being in possession of an illegal weapon. Thirty-four officers and four canine units were involved in the crackdown.
