Officers patrolled several beaches along the south-west coast, particularly beaches in the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Coast Natural Park (PNSACV).
As a result of the morning-long action, twenty-two people were handed notices for camping and caravanning outside proper places meant for the effect. Those notifications will be followed up by the Institute for Nature and Forest Conservation.
“With the impending arrival of summer an increase to the flow of people in the region is expected and the GNR Territorial Command of Faro will remain attentive to this issue, increasing the awareness-raising actions and enforcement in this field” a statement from the force said, adding: “While on the issue, it should be noted that any form of overnight stay in the PNSACV area is prohibited; it is a park with specific characteristics that need to be safeguarded and valued, and caravanning and camping is an activity that contributes to the transformation of space, with emphasis on the dumping of waste that spoils the environment.”
