Places where the offences were registered include the Ria Formosa Natural Park, the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Coast Natural Park, Vila Nova de Milfontes, Aljezur, Arrifana, Bordeira and Sagres.
Throughout the whole of last year the GNR issued 217 fines, the majority in July and August, and, according to that force, since 2009, 659 fines have been issued, less than a fifth of which (120) to Portuguese nationals.
The exact total of how much has been generated in fines has not been tallied up.

Portuguese government need to think seriously about supporting the flow of motorhomes during the low seasons. There is still a lack of decent motorhome sites across Central and Southern Portugal in general, campsites charge far too much for pitches and planning permission needs to be granted quickly to keep up with demand. A charge of £5 euros a night for motorhome sites that are near villages, towns and cities is sensible allowing the footfall of tourists in to these areas to grow allowing the local economy to benefit during low season.
The local Cambra and Government need to tackle this together, perhaps the departments need to think about seeking guidance from other countries to help them solve this problem as the same issue is not apparent in other EU countries such as France, Germany and UK etc.
Tackle this issue now or tourists will simply chose to go elsewhere such as Spain, France and Morocco. A real shame if this does happen :(
