Speaking to journalists following a meeting with European Council President Donald Tusk on Monday, Costa explained the purpose of a series of meetings held late last week.
Pointing out that while there were bright spots, with Portugal turning in “good results” as regards European Union markets such as Spain, France and the United Kingdom, “we have suffered from some particular situations in some important markets to Portugal, such as Angola and Brazil. This requires an added effort on behalf of the government and businesses to find alternative markets and keep up the rise in pace of exports,” Costa detailed.
Hence, Costa said such contacts had been made both with exporting companies and also representatives from the leading export sectors.
“Together, we have to continue to strive to boost Portuguese exports that are an important and decisive component to national growth,” the prime minister added.
