“With the green light from Brussels the applications will finally be approved, for a total amount of investment of up to 94 million euros”, the Ministry of Environment said in a statement.

Applications for the funding had been pending for about a year and a half due to the “need to clarify the possible existence of state aid” in the financing of entities working in the sector, it explained.

The ministry said that it will now be possible to “advance rapidly” to approve the projects, which are to help the country reach targets laid down for 2020 in its Strategic Plan for Urban Waste (PERSU).
