According to INE last year current expenditure on Health saw estimated growth of 3 percent, which was lower than the rate of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, of 4.1 percent.
The estimated €17.3 billion account for 9 percent of GDP and €1,683.9 per capita.
In 2016, current spending on health rose by 1.2 percentage points more than GDP.
The figures released on Tuesday show that current public spending on health has grown over the 2015-2017 period, by more than current private spending, “reinforcing its relative importance in financing the Portuguese health system.”
