Inmates in Portugal’s jails gradually dropping

in News · 02-08-2018 10:13:00 · 0 Comments

The number of inmates in Portugal’s jails has been gradually dropping, according to the head of the country’s prison service, Celso Manata.

This, he says, is largely because the number of offenders wearing electronic tags has risen exponentially. Mr. Manata says the number of inmates in prisons has been constantly dropping since 2016 and that presently only a few of the country’s prisons are overcrowded.
