A report in The Sun claims the thief struck while the world famous manager was watching Portugal win the Euros but was quickly caught by security staff and handed to the police.
The burglar was reportedly caught when a maid who was ironing, spotted the man trying to get through the basement door and yelled: “What are you doing here?”
Pictures printed in the tabloid taken by a passer-by who caught the drama unfolding show a “dumbfounded” Mourinho watching as police handcuff the would-be intruder before leading him off.
According to The Sun, East European intruder, Gabor Roman, tried to flee but was stopped when a security guard who had been tracking him blocked his path. He was then arrested outside Jose’s £25m home after a team of eight police officers dashed to the central London property. The Man Utd manager was reportedly at home with his wife Matilde Faria when the attempted break-in occurred
A passer-by told the newspaper: “Jose looked dumbfounded. I don’t think it had registered with the guy, he was trying to burgle the house of the world’s most famous football coach.”
Roman, 25, of no fixed address, was jailed for four weeks by Westminster magistrates after admitting attempted burglary.
The break-in occurred just hours after Jose Mourinho attended the Men’s Final at Wimbledon between Milos Raonic and Andy Murray.
