Investors face extensive golden visa delays

in News · 17-08-2017 12:47:00 · 2 Comments

Investors looking to take advantage of Portugal’s golden visa scheme are having to wait up to three months for an appointment at SEF immigration offices in Lisbon.

According to newspaper Diário de Notícias, extensive delays have appeared since the spring. This is being blamed on staff shortages and the growing popularity of the scheme that allows third nationals to gain residence in Portugal. Another problem faced by investors is that SEF officials are reportedly not accepting appointments in advance to avoid waiting lists from growing too long.

This is not unique to the Golden Visa program , all appointments with SEF can take months , even just renewing a residence visa . The real reason for the delays has been the continuing strikes in various centres since the beginning of 2017.
Would appear that the government and ministers could not care less , and for this reason many Golden Visa demanders have given up and left the country , but this is not talked about .
