A study released by the Portuguese Tourism Institute a year ago predicted that the overwhelming majority of tourism operators here expected better results in 2016 than they did 2015, which was the best to date.
The Tourism Barometer revealed that more than two-thirds (67.8 percent) of operators said last year would top 2015.
The pound was expected to boost the tourism season ever further, but despite Brexit causing Sterling to slump, 2016 has ended up being the best on record.
While it remains a tough ask to improve on 2016’s excellent figures, a stronger pound in 2017 could just be the difference and make the coming year another one to remember for the Portuguese tourism industry.
