The blaze ignited on a patch of scrubland on Praia da Falésia and was reported shortly before 9pm.
Forty firefighters and 11 fire engines from stations in Loulé, Silves, São Brás de Alportel and Faro were dispatched to the hard-to-reach spot, and managed to bring the flames under control within an hour.
Offering their collective thanks, local residents said firefighters and police were swift to arrive at the scene, and “this clearly could have been much worse if they hadn’t arrived promptly particularly for residents living in close proximity.”
