The Swedish city won the European Mobility Week Award for its long-term focus on active transport modes such as cycling and walking.
The Portuguese capital and Skopje in Macedonia had been the other two finalists in the awards handed out by the European Commission.
Lisbon had been short-listed for a number of positive changes, including for the transformation of public areas accessible to pedestrians.
Glad Lisbon lost here, it still is miles behind cities like Malmo in terms of transportation. Over the years the city has been to busy starting new green projects while ignoring the infrastructure that is already in place. The metro for example is quite frankly, obsolete, slow, always has delays and is jam packed at peak hours. Comparing it to Malmos is offensive...
