The supplement of €1 per overnight stay will reportedly be used to create a fund for the sustainability of tourism and the environment.

This will be used to cover the likes of beach replenishments along the Loulé coastline, as well as to repair damage caused by such as floods.

Loulé Mayor Vitor Aleixo confirmed the news, saying the fee would not weigh heavy on tourists, but could be decisive in responding to the consequences of climate change.
