The airport said that the high winds after midday meant that several flights were unable to land at what is considered to be one of European’s most challenging airports to touch down at.

Porto Santo airport, usually a very quiet aerodrome, now has aircraft from Lisbon, London, Birmingham, Copenhagen and Helsinki, as well as one from Faro, which was supposed to carry passengers who had been held back at the weekend, also because of the high winds.
