"The proposal as it was presented implies negative discrimination against Portuguese companies registered with the Madeira Free Zone and the Madeira shipping registry", the local government said.
The regional government said the proposal provided for lower “Tonnage Tax" rates stopping companies registered with the Free Zone opting for this system.
