Maritime Police rescue 33 migrants crossing the Aegean Sea

The Portuguese Maritime Police rescued 33 immigrants, including six children, four babies and twelve women, one of whom was pregnant as they tried to cross the Aegean Sea from Turkey to Greece.

The Maritime Police said that 31 migrants were Afghanis while the other two were from Iran. They were taken to the port in Skala and handed over to the Greek authorities.

 

The Maritime Police are on a mission to support the Greek Coast Guard that controls and monitors the Greek and European Union’s external borders to fight against cross-border crime.

 

The Maritime Police has rescued 742 immigrants since starting their mission on 1 May.
