According to João Cotrim de Figueiredo, these new routes, with connections to countries such as the UK, Ireland and Germany are among tourism authorities’ priorities to combat seasonality in the Algarve and to bring more tourists over during the quieter winter months.
The tourism chief made his comments during the presentation of a survey conducted on tourism by Global Media, which owns titles such as Diário de Notícias and Jornal de Notícias and sponsored by Millennium bcp.
Among other findings, it was revealed that 84 percent of foreign tourists were extremely satisfied with Portugal’s beaches, while more than three-quarters of respondents said they had visited a beach in the country the past three years.
