According to new figures from Portugal Statistics, the number of hotel guests in January topped one million for this first time on record.
New markets helped with this boost in numbers, with Swiss guests up by 50 percent when compared with 12 months before.
Figures were further helped by an increase in American visitors, who were up 22 percent, while Brazilian tourist numbers grew by 15 percent.
Brazilians are not tourists. They're like the Mexicans in US. They come to Portugal, stay illegal and work.
Only, Portugal embraces Brazilians with special laws. Gives them an opportunity to prosper in Portugal and off course, like in the US, they pay taxes. Most of the Brazilians in Portugal seek the Portuguese passport, so they can enter in the US as "Portuguese" that, I'm sure you know, gives them full access... Until the US closes that "door" too. (Country quota) And then true born Portuguese can't go to US because everyone thinks we're like the Brazilian... Cute, huh?
