Any plans currently on the table will therefore only be brought in after the round of local elections in October. At the end of last year, Lisbon council gave the green light to a set of proposals, including suggestions the vehicles should be electric, to be submitted for public consultation.
Late last year, the council decided on asking the capital’s inhabitants if they agreed that all tuk tuks should be electric by mid-2017, but the decision is not in force yet.
Lusa News Agency says it is estimated that about half of the city’s tuk tuks are already electric-powered.
