Speaking at a US-led refugee summit at the United Nations, Obama praised Germany, Canada, Austria, the Netherlands and Australia for their continued efforts, while also thanking Portugal and Argentina for taking on new commitments with regard to refugees, which include accepting at least ten times more refugees in 2017.
Turkey, Pakistan, Lebanon, Iran, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kenya and Uganda currently host more than half the world’s refugees, while the United States, China, Japan, Britain, Germany and France host just seven percent of the world total.
