According to reports out today the man, a private works engineer, allegedly charged applicants up to €1,000 a piece to obtain planning permission licences.
The man was arrested following an investigation by the Public Prosecutor.
He is the third employee at Olhão council to be arrested on suspicion of corruption in recent years; in 2016 two female employees were arrested and handed suspended sentences for similar charges.
