According to local Parish Mayor Rute Lima, the project will be Olivais’ first scenic viewpoint and is a “two-in-one” as it will also renovate the area in which it is to be installed, at the top of Cidade de Tete street.
The project is being developed through a partnership with Lisbon council at an estimated cost of €60,000.
Speaking to Lusa News Agency, Rute Lima said the viewpoint could provide a way of rehashing childhood memories.
“All of us, when we were younger, would go with our parents or grandparents to watch planes”, she said, adding that the project will intervene on two different fronts: breathing new life into a neglected area, and putting an end to “less desirable activities in the area.”
The platform is expected to take two months to complete and will be inaugurated at the beginning of 2017.
Along with the platform there is also the possibility for accommodation, a kiosk and a children’s park to take shape.
