The postcards were part of a workshop that aimed to teach the children about the bond forged centuries ago between “our two amazing countries” and the role the city of Oporto played in maintaining that bond.
An art historian and an architect gave the children an informative insight into the history of the alliance, with the final part of the workshop being for the children to “address some postcards to The Portugal News”, due to its role as “an important pillar of the British community in our country.”
“We designed these postcards with friendship for your staff, to show you some of the buildings, places, ideas and echoes of the past that still exist in Porto and that still tell us so much about the pact between Portugal and England”, the class wrote in a letter, signed in colourful felt tip by each student, adding: “May this incredible story last for another six centuries and beyond.”
