In a statement, the club said that Petit – whose real name is Armando Gonçalves Teixeira - requested a meeting with the board following Monday’s draw with Portimonense and expressed his intention of stepping down.

Petit is the sixth coach in Portugal’s top flight to step down this season, and the second at Paços de Ferreira. He had replaced Vasco Seabra, who stepped down after the team was thrashed by FC Porto and booted out of the Portuguese Cup by second-division Académica de Coimbra.

Petit oversaw just nine games, including seven in the league.

Paços de Ferreira is on the edge of the relegation zone, in 16th place, with 14 points – just two above the teams in the zone.
