A 13 kg bottle of butane gas can cost, on average, €26 in Portugal, although it depends on the brand because it can reach €29.
The same product can be purchased for approximately €14 in Ayamonte, a Spanish town near the Guadiana river.
Carlos Ramalho, a Portuguese resident in Vila Real de Santo António, said it takes him “10 minutes here and 10 there” and the savings in diesel and gas “compensate” for the 15km trip via the international bridge over the Guadiana.
Ricardo Castro, another source, said that he always goes to Spain to get gas and fuel for his diesel car and stressed that he usually takes “many things, like beverages”, because “it is all much cheaper than in Portugal.”
