The document said the best previous figure was exceeded by 3.7 million tonnes, with the highest amounts of cargo handled by the ports of Leixões, Aveiro and Sines (52.8 percent of total cargo), with variations of 9 percent, 23.2 percent and 6.8 percent, respectively.
“However, it is important to highlight the performance of the Port of Lisbon, which continues to recover from accumulated losses in recent years, registering the highest year-on-year increase of 26.3 percent, corresponding to an additional 1.22 million tonnes,” the document said.
“The Port of Lisbon recorded remarkable growth of 20.6 percent in the number of stopovers (214 ships), only surpassed by the port of Portimão, which, on a smaller scale, recorded an increase of 63.6 percent, corresponding to an additional 14, mostly cruise ships,” the statement said.
The ports of Aveiro (9.8 percent), Figueira da Foz (2.8 percent) and Viana do Castelo (1.8 percent) had positive variations in terms of number of stopovers, while Faro (61.3 percent), Sines (7.8 percent), Douro and Leixões (2.1 percent) and Setúbal (0.5 percent) registered fewer movements.
However, “the largest share remains in Douro and Leixões with 24.4 percent, followed by Lisbon with 22.8 percent, Sines with 20.6 percent and Setúbal with 15 percent.”
