The prime minister was speaking at the launch of the call for tenders for the rail link from Évora to Elvas, held in Elvas on Monday morning and that the work should start by March next year costing about €509 million, almost half of which will come from European funds.
The railway works, which will connect the Portuguese deep-water port of Sines and Lisbon to the Spanish border are important for both Iberian countries, he said.
The line is mainly going to be used for freight trains, which is why the Spanish prime minister was also present.
