In Portugal, road deaths fell 9% between 2012 and 2013 and there was a huge 34% drop in the figures compared with 2010 when there were 80 deaths per million.

The countries with the fewest accidents in 2014 were Malta (26 per million inhabitants), Sweden and the UK (29 each), while the most dangerous places were Bulgaria and Lithuania (90 each), Romania (91)and Latvia (106).
