During a ceremony to present the investment made by French-Japanese company Howa Tramico in the northern city of Viana do Castelo, Costa spoke in French and extended condolences to the French people as well as “friendship and solidarity”.
“This was an attack that touches all Europeans and that means it gives us a clear message. Because what should Europe do in the future? It should focus on the real and concrete problems of the people and that means Europe’s solidarity to combat the transnational terrorist threat we are facing and which threatens European civilisation,” the Prime Minister said.
António Costa said he had been in touch with French President François Hollande, and Prime Minister Manuel Valls to offer Portugal’s condolences after the attacks.
“Today all Europeans also share the suffering of France and the French (people),” Costa said.
